Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) for BPD
At The Transitional Space, we approach Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and complex relational instability through the gold-standard framework of Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT). Mentalizing is the capacity to make sense of ourselves and others by imagining the mental states—feelings, thoughts, and intentions—behind our actions. For those who have experienced attachment trauma, this capacity often "goes offline" during emotional arousal, leading to psychic equivalence (where feelings are felt as absolute facts) or profound relational distress.
Our MBT service provides a rigorous "holding environment" where we work in the "here-and-now" of the therapeutic relationship. We adopt a "not-knowing" stance of genuine curiosity to help you safely explore the internal worlds of yourself and others. By expanding your Window of Tolerance and recovering your ability to mentalize under stress, we move beyond symptom management toward true emotional regulation and attachment security. We honor the "threshold" where reactive patterns are transformed into reflective agency, allowing for a more stable and integrated sense of self
